102 KB, and nothing tells you
Gmail truncates a message once its source passes roughly 102 KB. It shows what fits, then a “Message clipped — View entire message” link, and almost nobody clicks it. What sits below the fold at that point is the bottom of your email: the final call to action, the footer, and your unsubscribe link.
Marketing Cloud does not check this. Preview and Test render the whole thing happily, because they are not Gmail.
The weight is in the code, not the images
The limit applies to the HTML source, so a heavy hero image hosted on a CDN costs you almost nothing while a base64-embedded logo costs you every one of its bytes. Table-based layouts with inline styles repeated on every cell add up faster than people expect, and build-system comments left in the template are pure weight.
Whitespace and indentation count too. A template that looks tidy in the editor can carry several KB of nothing.
What the checker returns
Your exact code weight against the 102 KB threshold and a straight verdict on whether Gmail will clip it. A breakdown of what is consuming the budget — base64 images, comments, whitespace — with the KB each fix recovers and your projected weight once they are applied.
It also shows a quick render with images off and at mobile width, which is where a clipped unsubscribe link turns from an annoyance into a compliance problem.
No Litmus licence required
Testing tools that catch clipping exist, and they cost money and a round trip. This is a paste box. It runs entirely in your browser, so the HTML you paste — which on a real campaign contains your copy, your offers and your links — is not sent anywhere.
Run it on the template once, fix what it finds, and the whole category of problem goes away for every send built on it.
